Ancestors of Mungo

The Lake holds life, painted faces of ochre balancing on bark canoes, beneath is silence. There he calls out, the fin splashes just enough for the eye to see. Over the side he goes, spear and body embracing the first catch. Kookaburras’ laughter echoes across the Lake, waiting for ceremony to begin, beneath their feet is white earth surrounding the Lake as far as the eye can see.
